The Role:

  • The Editor of Vogue.com is responsible for the overall editorial direction, vision, tone, voice, and content lineup of Vogue.com, with a keen eye for storytelling that critically examines the culture of global style and the intersection of fashion and culture.  They will ensure robust daily digital coverage across our platforms, speaking with one compelling and authoritative voice, covering a breadth of topics from fashion, to beauty, to culture, to lifestyle, to current affairs, and breaking news - all through the lens of exceeding digital KPIs for audience and performance.
  • The successful candidate must be an experienced editor and writer who understands the changing media landscape, be extremely well versed in the fashion industry with a network of relationships, and be a talented people manager. They should have an established track record of high journalistic achievement including deep experience in writer/contributor recruitment and development, creative digital storytelling, and managerial experience.
  • They are a voracious ideas generator, driven by a search for stories that examine and elevate fashion, beauty, and culture in all its forms. They are skilled in leading an editorial team in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. They must demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to the Vogue values of diversity, inclusion, and sustainability.
  • This role is part of Vogue’s senior leadership team and will work alongside other senior editorial leaders to oversee and strategize on all Vogue properties, including podcasts, social, video, app, magazine, and newsletter. The role reports to the Editor in Chief.

Primary Responsibilities:

  •  Ideate and execute editorial content strategy/line-up across digital properties, in collaboration with the Editor in Chief, VP Global Head of Content Strategy, Deputy Editor (and other senior leads) - with audience engagement and growth front of mind.
  • Oversee and collaborate with vertical section leads and other brand senior editors to develop vigorous content strategies for a 365-day line-up, tailored to engage existing audiences and generate growth. Ensure the brand voice translates consistently across all content platforms - digital, social and video.
  • Lead and manage the digital editorial team - develop a diverse stable of editors and writers; spot and nurture emerging talent; foster a transparent, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative team environment; effectively lead and participate in key HR/People initiatives such as annual performance management, compensation planning, etc.
  • Work with the audience development and social media teams to translate Vogue’s unique voice and content offering to existing and emerging platforms.
  • Work closely with Vogue’s digital editors across all markets on content plans, collaboration opportunities and so on.
  • Work alongside the Executive Fashion Director (Commerce), to ensure smooth and consistent alignment of shopping content into the overall digital lineup.
  • Work with the VP, Global Head of Content Strategy to advance Vogue.com’s digital business needs while ensuring editorial sensibility.
  • Collaborate closely with the Digital Director and global product & technology team to conceive, develop and execute best-in-class digital storytelling and features.
  • Collaborate with Creative, Talent Casting, and Video to develop and execute digital initiatives that engage and scale. Work with the events team on brand events, both internal and external, both virtual and in person.
  • Operate in an integrated way - across all platforms - acting as a key stakeholder and role model for ensuring all Vogue teams work collaboratively. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of relevant newsroom experience, with extensive experience in editorial leadership. Ideal candidate has run a large team or newsroom.
  • Experienced editor who can shape breaking news stories and longform pieces.
  • An understanding of how to interpret data, and the role it plays in helping form content strategy primed for performance. Experience working with digital KPIs.
  • Must have a network of relationships with writers, contributors and content creators.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience building a culture of trust and inclusion
  • Possess the ability to flex between local and global sensibilities.
  • Must exhibit leadership qualities that inspire editorial expertise.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve across all areas.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience managing a diverse digital editorial team in a fast-moving environment.
  • Familiarity with revenue models, including digital subscriptions, affiliate linking, and digital advertising.

Conditions:

  • The expected base salary range for this position is from $170,000 - $225,000. 
  • Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
