  • ILO Internship Programme provides an opportunity for talented individuals to:
  • Increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies;
  • Gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.
  • The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.
  • It is highly recommended that you submit your application as soon as possible to avoid last minute technical issues or delays. Late applications will not be considered.
  • Please only apply for an internship if you fulfil the following two criteria:
  • You have no close relative serving in the ILO.
  • This is your first internship with the ILO (only one internship is permitted).

Tasks

  • Within the DWT/CO-Moscow team, the Labour Administration, Labour Inspection and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Specialist is responsible for providing policy advice, technical assistance and capacity building in the areas of labour administration, labour inspection and OSH to the governments, labour inspectorates, other relevant law enforcement agencies and OSH institutions, as well as social partners and other stakeholders in the countries covered by DWT/CO-Moscow.
  • He ensures integrity, coordination and synergy of ILO technical assistance, strengthen the analytical and research capacity at national level, and promotes knowledge sharing at sub-regional level, being accountable for the timely delivery of all outputs under his responsibility, including coordination with activities in other technical areas implemented under the DWT/CO-Moscow's Outcome Based Work plan.
  • The intern will develop their activities mainly on the areas of labour inspection and OSH.
  • S/he will have the chance to extend their knowledge and experience by collaborating with other technical specialists.
  • The intern can, therefore, expect to become involved in tasks outside of his/her specialist area, thereby gaining wider insights into the workings of the ILO Moscow office and the ILO, and learning about the importance of cross-cutting issues, including gender and social dialogue.
  • The internship will be provided with the opportunity of developing applied desk research and data analysis skills.
  • The successful candidate will work under technical guidance of the Labour Administration, Labour Inspection and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Specialist in Moscow.
  • Main Duties Include, Among Others
  • Gather, compile information and support research related to Labour Administration, Labour Inspection and OSH policies, programmes and legislation in the countries covered by the office, including statistical analysis, review of existing research in topics such as labour inspection and OHS systems and legislation, ratification and implementation of International Labour Standards (ILS) on Labour Inspection and OSH, ILO Committee on Application of Standards (CAS) Observations, as well as, and, if required, other technical areas covered by the ILO’s mandate.
  • Provide assistance to the relevant ILO projects and programmes implemented or to be implemented by the ILO in the countries of the sub-region.
  • Assist in the mapping and characterization of the countries of the sub-region in terms of labour inspection and OSH systems, practices and legal frameworks, respective priorities, challenges and comments from ILO Supervisory Bodies (as regards their conformity with the ILS); activities of ILO in those countries (including on-going and potential projects and programmes); current or potential activities of other UN agencies and programmes in those countries and their priorities; as well as identification of potential donors in the sub-region countries and their priorities.
  • To assist in the collection and organization of information on the achievement of outputs 1.3.1, 1.3.2, 7.2.1 and 7.2.2 of the ILO P&B 2022-23, as well as on the monitoring of the performance against the established targets.
  • Take notes during important events and draft minutes and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation and reports of meetings, as well as of documents related to the work on labour inspection and OSH carried out in the sub-region;
  • Engage in knowledge and information management activities, including development of tools, products, methodologies and programmes on labour inspection and OSH, systematising existing information by date, topic and country.
  • Assist in facilitating knowledge management activities, including publications, translation, research on actual topics.
  • Assist in the organization of conferences, workshops, forums or other collaborative events, either online or face-to-face (subject to national regulations and internal ILO requirements and rules) in the context of labour inspection and OSH.
  • Draft knowledge and success stories/good practices on labour administration, labour inspection and OSH in the countries covered by the ILO Office in Moscow.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the supervisor.

Required profile

  • Area of studies: economics, management, international relations, law, OSH, labour relations, international development, business administration, sociology, social sciences or other related field.
  • Applicant should currently follow a course of study (last year of Master degree or above), or have completed studies within 12 months prior to this application.
  • Some relevant work or internship-related experience is an advantage. Studies or work experience in one or more of the following fields would be an advantage: labour law, OSH, ergonomics, labour inspection, ILS on OSH or labour inspection, labour economics, or improvement of working conditions.
  • Strong oral and written proficiency in English is required. Working command of Russian would be an advantage.
  • Adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a multicultural and dynamic team. Willingness to innovate and critical thinking.
  • Duration of contract: 3 to 6 months (starting on the 1st or the 15th of a given month).
